Article V of the Constitution

When I started this blog, I thought one important thing to do was get a copy of the Constitution. The name of my blog and what I wanted to address made it imperative to comment on political figures and potential laws. I did that thru Hillsdale College via a small donation.

Moving on. Article V of the Constitution says:

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which , in either Case shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate

Now we have all been witness to the dysfunction going on in Congress. It is not the first time, it won’t be the last time. In fact it seems as though both Republicans and Democrats continue to devolve into a couple of warring factions of neanderthals, no offense to neanderthals!! They seem to forget about the will of the people. Now some of this dysfunction may be fixed come the 2020 election. I lean not, Political Action Committees, Lobbyists and in general, corruption will continue the quid pro quo in Washington D.C.

Here is my take, based on Article V, we the people have an out, a fix. We can take back the Government. The convention of States is our hope! We need 33 states to group together to end this madness. It would take 38 states to make an Amendment to the Constitution. How do we do this you may ask? We have more access to local elected officials than we do our representatives from the house or senate. We elect state officials that support this measure. This is your mandate. Overall, you see a more diverse elected group of folks at the state and local level than you do nationally. That group is usually more open to new ideas than our “esteemed” representatives and senators.

Think of the possibilities, Congressional term limits! Force the Government to balance the budget! Eliminate political action committees, lobbyists. Instead of Congress dictating when they work, we do. Give Congress a “no conflict of interest” clause. Get rid of the filibuster. Have a potential bill stand up on it’s own, not attached to other bills. You get the point, it’s up to us!!

What is the Government doing?

All we hear is Impeachment, impeachment, impeachment!! Democrats insist there is quality in the articles they have presented. Republicans and myself included agree there is nothing there, I read the transcript multiple times. So this begs the question, what has the Government been doing?

So a quick little look into what is happening in the House revealed that they are passing bills. These bills are then going to the Senate for them to pass, where they go to die. Mitch McConnell apparently has a new nick name, the Grim Reaper. The bills go to the Senate to die!!

There are 9,847 bills and resolutions before Congress as a whole. This week there are a whopping 22 bills and resolutions up for debate !! Renaming a mountain! Collect information regarding accurate data usage in rural areas! Banning smoking on Amtrak!! These are three, they seem very innocuous, kind of busy work. If I appear to be busy and say look how many bills I have passed, I am doing my job!!

Here is my take. I am a small business owner, my business has grown over the six years. I had to hire my wife to help me grow my business and maintain a work life balance. There are days that balance is out of wack. We have to make extra stops! We have to run out of order! We are missing product and fix it! Bottom line is we do what is right for our customers, we don’t dictate terms to them. The members of Congress work for us and should not dictate when and how they work. If their work load per day is 22 bills and there are 9,847 bills to debate, that would take 448 days to cover. Wait, some of them are only there for two years, wait, more bills are introduced everyday! We the people, in this case are the customers, they seem to drag their feet and drag everything. People get fired for not doing their jobs, in this case, the voting booth is our only recourse!

Impeachment inquiry

September 24th started the impeachment inquiry, it is now December 1st. Let me say it again, impeachment inquiry, not actual impeachment. It started with Adam Schiff’s parody phone call between President Donald Trump and the new President of the Ukraine Volodymyr Zerensky. During that “parody” Adam Schiff said this is how I see the phone call going. So this craptastic show could go on for months.

Adam Schiff chose all of the witnesses. He chose who would speak to them and what questions to ask. When he did allow witnesses to be asked questions, the gavel came out. More disturbing was the fact he would turn off microphones of Republicans who wanted to ask questions. Due process was throw out the window and a kangaroo court ensued. When cross examination did finally happen, all of the witnesses testimony came down to hearsay. We heard things like, “I thought,” “I felt,” ” He said,” “She said,” Tell me where is the “evidence.” I read the transcript, I did not find any quid pro quo.

So only one other President has had an impeachment inquiry to deal with, President Nixon, he resigned before Congress came down on him. In 243 years and 45 Presidents this is the second time in our history an inquiry has happened. Two Presidents have been impeached by the House of Representatives Andrew Jackson and Bill Clinton. Neither was removed from office because you need the Senate to remove the President with a two thirds vote. Bottom line, the Democrats don’t have the votes in the Senate to remove Donald Trump from office.

All that being said, where does all of this get us, nowhere!! The last time I looked there were 706 pending bills that needed to be debated on the House floor. It’s Washington D.C. being Washington D.C., all talk and no show!! How much time has been wasted? How much money has been wasted? No talk of the illegal immigrants, are they not there anymore? I guess they all went home, no T.V. coverage? The 16 billion missing from Baltimore, not talked about. Come on pick a hot topic of the last six months, they have all disappeared because of this inquiry.

Here is my take. The Democrats are all in on smearing Donald Trump, not about impeachment at all. The 2020 election is a year away and the writing on the wall is already there, they have no chance. President Trump has actually kept some of his campaign promises. Despite some of the elites hoping for a recession, it hasn’t happened. So a group of fully grown adults who don’t like the current President and don’t see some of their peers as the answer to the 2020 election, have turned to this craptastic show just to smear President Trump. Good luck and focus on your local elections!
